Privacy and trust
Your information stays on your device
How Oakstead Reports keeps your case private, and what we will never do.
How your case stays private
The report form is a web page that works entirely in your browser. There's nothing to install. Once the page opens, everything you do happens on your device, and there's no account to create, nothing to upload, and no database on our side that could hold your case.
Want to finish later? Use "Save my progress" to save a small file to your own device, like saving any document. Next time, open the report form and load that file to pick up where you left off. We never see it. Without a saved file, closing or refreshing the page clears what you typed, because we never had a copy.
Paid packets are coming soon. When they arrive, payment will be handled by a payment processor on a separate checkout page that can't see anything you entered in the report form, and our privacy policy will explain what's shared.
What the file fingerprints mean
For each evidence file, the report form calculates a SHA-256 fingerprint: a 64-character code produced from the file's exact contents. The same file always produces the same fingerprint. Change even one pixel, and the fingerprint comes out completely different.
Your packet lists each file with its fingerprint. Later, an investigator can fingerprint the file you provide and compare. If the codes match, the file hasn't been changed since your packet was made. It's a simple way to show your evidence is the same as when you organized it.
What we will never do
- Contact you first. We don't call, text, email or message victims. If someone claiming to be us reaches out, it isn't us.
- Promise to recover your money, or charge you to "release" funds.
- Trace crypto or investigate anyone. We organize your own records. Tracing is work for law enforcement.
- Contact scammers, exchanges or police for you. You stay in control of who gets your packet.
- Give legal advice or tell you whether you have a case. Oakstead Reports is a self-help tool and is not a substitute for the advice of an attorney.
If the scam is still happening
Then report it. The IC3 guide walks through the FBI's form step by step. After you report explains what to expect, and the recovery scam check helps you spot the fake recovery offers that often follow.
